The Here and Now

Notice I haven’t written anything in two weeks? I have.

For YEARS I had considered writing a blog and decided against it with the reasoning that I didn’t want to be one of those people who started a blog all excited and then just fizzled out. I think that was just an excuse for actually fearing that I would fail at blogging. (ugh, see recent post Paralyzed?)

In fact, the only reason I finally started writing The Tiny Trail is because my husband and I finally made the decision to pursue a tiny living lifestyle and I wanted to document the journey.

This year has been unpredictable and suddenly that dream feels far away. It’s an expensive year. My youngest sister is pregnant, and a dear friend is getting married and asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding. These are wonderful things, but we have incurred many costs. On top of it, my husband transitioned jobs and I’m not incredibly happy at my own (ever heard that saying “people don’t quit their jobs they quit their bosses? Well that’s my current problem).

So, there’s no money right now to launch our journey to tiny living… the whole reason I started this blog. What’s a girl to do? Well, plenty, actually. Simplifying my life can start here and now at no cost. It just took my mopey self a couple weeks to realize that and now I’m putting on my big girl panties.

So I’m going to do some upcoming posts on things like work-life balance, money management, and environmental stewardship. This will be mixed in with my standard posts of trying to work out stuff that I’m going through right now… and there is plenty! That’s another reason I started this blog was to get out some thoughts and process the emotions of this stage I’m in. These posts are typically raw and honest (like this, this, and this), so if you can’t handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen. But really, I do hope you stick around.

  1. Woo hoo! Congratulations on taking this leap of faith! I am excited for you and your journey and I love finding another person like you with the same mission who also feels a sense of vulnerability and doubt. I’m glad that I can share in this community with a fellow advocate for simple living. 🙂

  2. I definitely feel the pressure too! I end up blocking a half day and writing two or three posts to queue. It sometimes gets to the point where I feel like I’m spending more time behind the computer than living my life!!! Good luck with finding the balance, I will certainly be sticking around to follow 🙂

      1. Yes! It helps me a lot when I sit down if there is at least something to go off of rather than the dreaded blank post. I think a lot of the leg work in blogging is coming up with new ideas and relating these ideas to the “theme” or desired content of your blog? IDK. Good luck!
